Holding My Breath was written while Sidura lived in Edgbaston, Birmingham between 2001 and 2004. During that time, she was a member of the Tindal Street Fiction Group, whose members provided valuable feedback in the writing process. As such, the Birmingham book launch has a special significance. Sidura will be reading from the book, signing copies and in conversation with literary journalist Hephzibah Anderson. EVENT: JEWISH BOOK WEEK: "GROWING TALES" PANEL DISCUSSION 26 FEBRUARY 2008 • 12:30 p.m. Royal National Hotel, Bedfor Way, London, WC1H 0DG Sidura participates in a panel discussion with novelists Esther Freud and Anne Landsman, chaired by Francesca Segal. According to the Jewish Book Week web site: "Three acclaimed authors tackle the the pain, awkwardness and strange joy of growing up. Esther Freud has frequently returned to this theme in her novels. Sidura Ludwig's debut novel, Holding My Breath depicts a young woman's struggle to find her way in the world. The Rowing Lesson, set in South Africa, is a moving story of a daughter's wish to keep her father alive by retelling his life story." AUTUMN 2007 Sidura had a busy season. She participated in the Winnipeg International Writers' Festival in September, speaking on the main stage and at the Nooner at the Millenium Library. In November, Sidura participated in three western Canadian Jewish book fairs: the Winnipeg Jewish Book Fair, the Calgary Jewish Book Fair, and the Vancouver Jewish Book Festival. Sidura also spoke to numerous book clubs, both in person and online. 13 JUNE 2007 Sidura participated in the Toronto Public Library Book Buzz, an online chat in which she answered readers' questions about Holding My Breath. 1 MAY 2007 Sidura gave birth to a beautiful and healthy baby girl, Dalya Rivka Shron. 21 MARCH 2007 The Toronto book launch for Holding My Breath: A Novel on 7 March was another resounding success. 120 people joined Sidura at the Leah Posluns Theatre in North York to hear her read an excerpt from the book and to have their copies signed. Sidura was introduced by Janie Yoon, her editor at Key Porter Books. In contrast to the Winnipeg book launch, Sidura talked a great deal more about the origins of the characters and their situations, and provided a vivid backdrop to her reading of the second chapter. The Prairie Ink restaurant was filled to capacity, and the overflow was directed to the balcony. Sidura was introduced by Janie Yoon, her editor at Key Porter Books, and Marnie Ferguson, who was her manager at McNally Robinson when Sidura worked there as a teenager and is now Director of Publisher Services at distributor H.B.
